FAQs: Hypnobirthing

What is Hypnobirthing?
Hypnobirthing is science! There’s a reason it’s becoming more and more popular, as hypnobirthing is about being in tune with your instincts for birth and beyond, making informed and confident decisions, having a supportive and useful birth partner and having a positive birth, whichever way it goes.

My courses help you remain calm, in control and positive throughout your pregnancy and birth. You’ll understand your options, make your own decisions and feel empowered. All of my clients finish the course feeling in control and positive about their birth, and they are supported to stay feeling that way.

I specialise in first time births, next time births, IVF pregnancies, donor egg pregnancies and birth after a traumatic birth. I’ve taught lots of birth teams with different stories, and I support without judgement whatever your journey is.

Read more in my blog here.

What’s included in the Hypnobirthing classes?
Everything you need for a positive birth, support in pregnancy and beyond…plus snacks!

My Birth Coaching + Hypnobirthing courses are for the birthing person and their birth partner, so you don’t need to do the usual NCT course. I can also signpost you to local support services and support you after your birth because I really do care.

It’s way more than a Hypnobirthing course. It’s all about mindset. And yes, cake and tea are included because that’s really important.

When should I start a Hypnobirthing course?
This class is ideal from around 20 weeks so you have time to practise the techniques and really build your confidence.

If you’re earlier or later in pregnancy, just get in touch and we can have a chat. I’ll always do my best to make it work for you.

Is hypnobirthing only for your first birth?
Birth Coaching + Hypnobirthing is for your first or next baby. I’ve taught lots of first time parents, but also second, third and fourth timers.

It’s also for any type of birth. Home birth, midwife led unit, labour ward or caesarean birth.

Is Hypnobirthing for me?
You might feel a bit unsure about the “hypno” part, and when I first heard of hypnobirthing, I was too. But I’m not a hippy, and hypnobirthing is really about understanding what happens so you’re not fearful of birth.

You’ll feel positive about your birth however you birth your baby. My courses are also more than “just” hypnobirthing. I’m a birth coach, so I support you in whatever way you need.

Does hypnobirthing work in the NHS?
Yes. Hypnobirthing is for any birth, wherever and however you birth. You can use the techniques in any setting, including an NHS birth.

Should my birth partner attend Hypnobirthing classes?
Yes, absolutely. My classes are for the birth team.

Your birth partner will learn how to support you, what’s happening during birth and how to be a calm and confident presence. It makes a huge difference.

What if my partner isn’t keen?
This is really common. A lot of birth partners come feeling unsure and leave feeling confident and involved.

Once they understand how they can support you and what their role is, it usually all clicks into place. Most partners are really glad they came.

I’ve previously had a traumatic birth. Is hypnobirthing right for me?
I had a traumatic birth with my first child. I always said if I were to give birth again, I would choose a home birth and really commit to hypnobirthing.

I did, and I had a very positive second birth experience because of it. I can’t make any promises, but if hypnobirthing feels right for you, I’m here for you.

Will this prepare me for induction, caesarean or a medical birth?
Yes. Hypnobirthing is not about one type of birth. It’s about understanding your options, staying calm and making informed decisions.

Whether your birth is straightforward or more medical, you’ll feel prepared and supported.

Can I learn hypnobirthing on my own?
You can learn about hypnobirthing through books, online courses, hypnosis tracks or podcasts.

Courses with A Mother World are focused on you, your pregnancy and your birth. You’re much more likely to get the full benefit when it’s personalised and when you have support from your teacher.

Is hypnobirthing less painful?
In the course you’ll learn about the fear, tension, pain cycle. When you’re tense, your body goes into fight or flight and that can increase pain.

Learning how to relax and breathe helps your body work more efficiently and can help reduce pain.

How painful is childbirth?
Pain in birth is different for everyone and depends on the tools you have to cope with it.

Hypnobirthing gives you tools and techniques to stay calm and relaxed so your body can work as it should.

Is hypnobirthing no pain relief?
No. Hypnobirthing is not about avoiding pain relief.

You’ll learn about how your body works, natural pain relief like endorphins, and all of your options so you can make the right decisions for you.

Where can I find out more about hypnobirthing?
There’s a lot of information online, some more accurate than others.

You can take a look at my ‘What is hypnobirthing’ page or book a free 15 minute discovery call to find out more.

How is this different from an NCT course?
You’ll learn everything you need to know about birth, but also how to feel calm, confident and in control - these are tools that last far beyond birth.

I focus on mindset, informed decisions and ongoing support. You’re not just another couple in a class. I’m here for you during your pregnancy and beyond, providing personalised support and education. I don't teach you how to change a nappy, or wash your baby, because that's all stuff you can google. I really do care, and help you to really prepare for this amazing journey, as a team.

Is it worth the investment?
Only you can answer that, but if you want to feel informed, calm and supported going into your birth, that’s exactly what these courses are designed to give you.

You’re not just paying for a course. You’re getting personalised support, guidance and tools that can really change how you experience your birth.

What is a Virtual Doula?

A Virtual Doula is a calm, continuous source of support that you can access whenever you need it.

I get to know you, your birth preferences and you as a couple, so I can support you with reassurance, grounding and emotional support throughout your pregnancy and birth.

Think of it as having a calm, supportive voice in your pocket — someone who helps you feel steady, informed and confident when you need it most.

Is Virtual Doula support included in your hypnobirthing courses?

Yes. Every in-person hypnobirthing course includes Virtual Doula support.

This means we build a real connection and toolkit together before your birth, and I’m there to support you as things unfold.

What kind of support do you offer?

I offer emotional support, reassurance and guidance based on everything we have worked through together.

This might include:

  • voice notes or messages to help you feel calm and grounded
  • talking things through before decisions
  • helping you feel steady during labour
  • supporting your birth partner as well

It’s about helping you feel held and confident, not alone.

Will you be at my birth?

No, I won’t be physically present.

I truly believe your birth space belongs to you and your partner. My role is to support you alongside that, not replace it.

You’ll have me available remotely whenever you need support.

Do you give medical advice?

No. I don’t provide medical advice or replace your care team.

I’m here to support you emotionally, help you understand your options, and feel confident in your decisions.

FAQs: Baby Classes

I’m a bit nervous. What can I expect?
It’s completely normal to feel nervous (and do you want to know a secret? I'm always nervous meeting you for the first time!).

The day before the class, you’ll be added to a WhatsApp group so you can see who else is coming, and you’ll get all the details you need.

When you arrive, it’s an apology free zone. You’ll be welcomed with a big smile and made to feel comfortable straight away, and be offered a hot drink.

What if I need to feed or change my baby?
A Mother World classes are a safe and non judgemental space.

Whatever your baby needs, you’re welcome to do. Feed, change, comfort. We all understand - I promise.

What if my baby cries during the class?
All babies cry! The class is led by the babies and what they need.

I’ll always make sure you and your baby are comfortable, and if you feel overwhelmed I’ll always offer to help or give you a break.

What age are baby massage classes suitable for?
Baby massage is usually suitable from around 6 weeks old until your baby becomes more mobile. Please make sure you've had your GP appointment and sign off to attend. If you haven't, I won't be insured to teach you.

If you’re unsure, just get in touch and I can help.

Do I need to bring anything to baby classes?
Just yourself and your baby.

You might want to bring a blanket or towel for your baby to lie on and your usual baby bag, but everything is kept really relaxed and simple.

Can I join if I’ve missed the start of a course?
Sometimes yes, depending on availability.

Just pop me a message and I’ll always do my best to fit you in or suggest the next best option.

Is baby massage suitable if my baby has reflux or colic?
Yes. Baby massage can really help with things like reflux, colic and wind.

We always go gently and follow your baby’s cues to make sure they’re comfortable.

What are the benefits of baby massage?

I wrote a blog post about this!
